Taking A Closer Look

Inside small light-bulbs

This project continues with a closer look at the inside of tiny light-bulbs.

Nothing fancy for this setup, just some back light on a white background. The camera is hosting a Canon 100mm Macro lens coupled with different combinations of extender tubes to increase magnification.

Small incandescent light-bulbs have a remarkably fragile looking interior.

It’s amazing these things last as long as they do.

Through the macro lens we can get a closer look at the parts that generate the light. This is small stuff with fine detail.

Coiled tungsten is what makes it all work.

Inside a Christmas light. This particular light has banged around in cold, snow, and wind for a number of years. Amazing it holds up.

This bulb contains a solid wire filament. No less fragile looking though.
