They came here uninvited…

Dragged from the gutters of humanity
Blood on their hands, never to be washed off
These are the worst, yet they are here to stay
They come uninvited and never leave

This island is now their home
Just a rock pile out on the bay
Steel and concrete, made to stay
Cold, dark, unforgiving, and hopeless

Hope was lost before they came here
No looking back, those deeds are done
Lost lives have become lost souls
There is no return, the end is here

Unimaginable deeds were done
Denials from some, but most with no regrets
Life in solitude becomes the reward
Locked in darkness until their last day

All the comforts of home, but not this home
Locks on the doors, the key thrown away
Watchmen in the towers, guards at the gate
No hope for escape…

Freedom to wander the streets…no longer
Dark hallways, mysterious rooms are all they have now
Life on the outside becomes life on the inside
Ask no questions; there are no answers

The dead of night sets in
Whispering voices share secrets from the past
Shrouded in the darkness of isolation
Some never to see daylight again

This is my island, they came here uninvited
It was their choice to be here
They are mine now, never to leave…
My name is Alcatraz…
